The Shamrock, at one time called the Seamroy, symbolises the cross and blessed trinity. Before the Christian era it was a sacred plant of the Druids of Ireland because its leaves formed a triad.

On June 7, 2003 O'Malley's Irish Pub opened its doors for business in downtown Chiang Mai, Thailand. This event was the culmination of many months of planning and hard work by the owners, Scot Stairs a Canadian expat of eighteen years and Doug Rankin of New Zealand. The project consisted of two fundamental and by no means easy parts. The first part was the actual construction of the Pub, which was designed and supervised by Scot using local products and workmanship. Doug organized the second part of the project, the acquisition and placement of all the memorabilia and photographs, resulting in a rich and beautifully appointed Irish theme Pub in the North of Thailand.

From the hardwood floors and teak paneling, to the flagstone front wall and fireplace; every attempt has been made to give the pub a true home away from home, "Irish Pub" feeling. The walls, beams and ceilings are adorned with genuine vintage memorabilia. Many of the items are circa 1900 and older. All of the items decorating the walls and beams, with the exception of the black powder rifle, were accumulated from many private collections in different countries around the world, before making their way up to Chiang Mai. In decorating O'Malley's we have focused on several themes: golfing, fly fishing, shooting, marine and sailing. All of these themes have been thoroughly represented by genuine memorabilia and photographs giving the place the aged leather and whiskey smell mixed with a museum like feeling that one would expect in a true Irish Pub.

The food at O'Malley's is also renowned for its quality and huge portions. The extensive menu offers great International cuisine. From full Breakfasts to Beef and Guinness Pie, or BBQ ribs and Chicken, you will always be able to find something at O'Malley's, which will satisfy your yearning for the taste of home.

So kick back with friends old and new, have a draft Guinness, a sumptuous meal and soak up the atmosphere of this truly authentic Irish Pub in the heart of Northern Thailand. Don't forget to bring along your camera, as you are sure to want to take some photos to show your friends and help remember your time here.
